The North Carolina Museum of Art, located in the state capital, Raleigh, is not a typical art museum.
It has grown from humble beginnings, starting as the personal collection of a North Carolina businessman, into the vast state legislature-funded collection of national and international art that it is today.
In addition to supplying funds to acquire art, the state legislature also granted the museum an adjacent site for the development of a museum park and trail system. With two miles of trails, and 164 acres of land, Raleigh now boasts the largest museum art park in the country.
mmcité partnered with Denver-based landscape architecture firm Civitas to supply the outdoor furniture for this vast park. Civitas chose the Intervera and Vera Solo benches to adorn the landscape. The North Carolina chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects honored the park in 2019 by awarding it the highest level of award – the Excellence Award. mmcité is proud to have played a part in this iconic design project.
