Miracle Park in Rock Hill, South Carolina, stands as an inspiring testament to inclusivity and community spirit. Opened in September 2021, this park was designed with Universal Design principles, making it accessible to individuals of all ages and abilities. The park is a collaborative project led by the York County Disabilities Foundation and the City of Rock Hill. Progressive AE and Ragona Architecture & Design (RAD) guided the design, incorporating features that cater to both physical and sensory needs.
The park’s first phase introduced an inclusive playground and a Miracle League baseball field, each thoughtfully equipped to ensure all visitors can engage and play. The park’s multi-purpose fields, slated for use in sports such as soccer, kickball, and flag football, further broaden its accessibility, while a planned retail space aims to employ individuals with different abilities. Mmcité provided an Aureo transit shelter. Vera Solo and Tably combinations are installed for larger gatherings underneath bright colored awning sails. Several Woody and Miela benches are strategically placed with Prax litter bins purposefully located as required.
A major contributor to the project was the Nicole & David Tepper Foundation, whose support, along with a grant from the Carolina Panthers, significantly funded the park’s development. Additional donations from community members have played a crucial role in realizing the park’s vision. With future phases underway, Miracle Park is set to continue expanding, ultimately providing more amenities for diverse recreational experiences. This park is a shining example of how community-driven initiatives can bring inclusive spaces to life, enriching the lives of countless individuals.
