We all know them. Overgrown and covered in weeds, far from comfort or beauty spots. Unsightly concrete benches with simple wooden seats can be found worldwide. We’re here to show you how little it takes to bring them back into the spotlight. Our attempt at a modern interpretation of this overlooked piece was given the name Reforma by its designers, Vrtiška&Žák. They preserved its simplicity while adding sophistication of shape and subtlety of detail. The result is an original and totally contemporary design which still stays true to the archetype.
“Reforma was born from a rethink of the typical modern bench in the form of a wooden seat on concrete legs. Our aspiration was to elevate the iconic form of the park bench and imbue it with a much fresher face,” explains Roman Vrtiška, whose colleague Vladimír Žák adds, “That’s how the Reforma collection came about, founded on organically gently shaped concrete legs with contrasting wooden planks making up the seat and backrest.”
In the Reforma range you’ll find classic straight benches with backrests both continuous and separated, as well as a model with no backrest at all. The backless model also comes as number of modular elements which can be arranged into long rows, arcs, or circles, and can even be installed atop low walls.
Solid concrete bases available in two colours, connected by slats of hardwood or thermally modified wood. All auxiliary steel elements are either galvanised steel with a powder coating or stainless steel. The bench can be surface-mounted.
