program mmcité social
Locally.
Sustainably.
Responsibly.
Both a legacy for future generations and commitment that we truly care about, sustainability and social responsibility are the values that matter to us.
"A city is a beautiful living organism that we have received from our ancestors to take care of under temporary stewardship and that we will pass on to our descendants one day. We should not pollute it, in every sense of the word. It is not true that the public space belongs to no one; it belongs to all of us."
David Karásek
ZERO WASTE MANUFACTURING
Made from wood scraps in the sheltered workshops, original gifts are our answer to sustainable development and zero waste manufacturing.
The manufacture of benches and other urban furniture produces leftover wood that is of no further use to us. Wanting to find a meaningful use for the waste material, we have come up with the concept of original gifts designed for us by the Czech studio BOAdesign and produced in limited editions in selected sheltered workshops.
The most popular products so far include the Chimcharara bird feeder, Swing On! swing, Urban Workers wooden cars and Robotgang.
PROMOTING LIFESTYLE AND URBANISM
Promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyle is very important to us. We sponsor a number of sports teams and organisations that promote walking and cycling in cities. We actively participate in the Walk the City initiative and identify with its stated mission that pedestrians are a treasure to the city. We love our cities and want to make them a safer and more pleasant place to stay. We advocate walking as one of the best ways to travel short distance – walk a little further, then bike. That is also why we have been long-term supporters of the Slovak Cycling Association.
Urban planning concerns us as a supplier of public space components and furniture, as well as on a personal level of each of our employees. We, too, are just people living in cities that we love. Aleš Bakoš is not only mmmcité's Board Chairman but also a long-term ambassador of CityChangers – an initiative to improve the traffic situation and traffic planning promoting friendly and sustainable mobility.
Public space as a fascinating place is the theme of many of our partnerships. In the US market, we maintain long-standing relationships with professional institutions such as ASLA, LAF and LaBash. In promoting talents and new approaches to public space, we sponsor a landscape architecture competition in Austria organised by ÖGLA, and the Austrian non-profit association of landscape architects ORTE.
Our mission to make cities more beautiful often takes a very specific form and place. In Brazil, we have donated benches and litter bins to APAE (Association of Parents and Friends of Exceptional People) in the cities of São Bento do Sul and Rio Negrinho as well as benches and planters to a number of churches including Main Church of São Bento do Sul, Oxford Parish and Rio Vermelho.
REGIONAL PROMOTION
Think globally, act locally.
We are always happy to lend a hand, or bench, when needed. We have donated benches to communities affected by the tornado to help restore public spaces faster. We have teamed up with the Salvation Army to replace benches with beds. We contribute financially, and raise public awareness, to solve homelessness issues and improve the living conditions for those staying on the streets. Our benches are for resting, yet everyone deserves to sleep in a bed. In our home region, we support the hospital of Uherské Hradiště and we partner with community agencies organising sports activities for children and adults.
Our offices around the world are involved in a range of CSR activities and our colleagues work with those in need in their home countries and regions.
We have had the pleasure to provide furniture to be installed at the inclusive park created for children with mental and physical disabilities within the Ace Mentor Legacy project for Liberty City Elementary School Yard in Miami. In Warsaw, we have teamed up with the Ronald McDonald House Charities – whose mission is to create, find, and support programmes that directly improve the health and well-being of children and keep sick children and their families together when facing the weight of long-term illness – in opening the second Ronald McDonald House. Health is our greatest wealth, as are family and quality relationships. Our support is often specific and personalised, such as in the case of the Slovak unincorporated association Emulík to which we have contributed a certain amount towards the purchase of a lower leg brace for little Emma.
Helping others comes naturally to the company as it comes to our individual employees who contribute to society in a number of ways, for instance, as bone marrow and blood donors.
With small elements and steps, together we are changing the lives of people and cities for the better.
