After reading today’s newsletter, you’re going to wish you could return to your student days, and above all you’re going to wish you’d spent them in London.

Downing Students’ latest project from architecture studio TP Bennett brings student accommodation in the style of a luxury hotel.

Miles Street comprises 841 student rooms, office spaces, and community recreational facilities right in the heart of London’s prosperous Vauxhall district. The multipurpose complex is made up of two towers, one 37-story and one 6-story, with an open square and modern cafe, not to mention an exercise hall and a terrace with an unrivalled view overlooking the city. And it’s to that terrace that we’re inviting you – through the medium of photos, at least. The terrace is also nominated for the final round of the Liquid Roofing & Waterproofing Association awards, and we can’t wait to find out the results later this month. We should add that the wholesale rejuvenation of the area, including high quality landscaping, has transformed this corner of south London into an attractive walking route.

The importance of the accommodation to students is summarised by the company’s founder, George Downing. “Providing quality educational facilities, including student accommodation, is among the key factors that draws people to higher education. Both must reflect the level and prestige of the college or university.”

The multipurpose roof terrace offers students an excellent way to spend their free time. The calling card of the project became a signature pastel green color: RAL 6019.

13 Manta seating objects can be used for study.
5 Rautster picnic tables are available for games and communal meals.
For relaxation, there are 6 Rivage loungers.

Safety was one of the most important factors governing the choice of products and materials. Originally the project was designed in jatoba, but due to fire safety regulations on the terrace the possibility of surface treating the wood with an additional inflammable coating was considered. The ultimate decision of the client was for mmcité product models that do not feature wood. The choice for timeless and restrained metal in the pastel green color suits this terrace best.

For their hard work we’d like to thank:
