Concrete in public spaces

Humour and playfulness to refresh public spaces are provided by designers Eduard Herrmann and Matěj Coufal, who have designed for us a new collection of outdoor furniture called Conics.

„We like to discover new and unconventional solutions,“ explains Eda, while his colleague Matěj adds: „For example, the basic structural as well as aesthetic component of Conics is a hollow cone. It can be used as the stable leg of a bench, or a planter for vegetation in cities.“

A quest for new shapes to liven up public spaces and expand the ways of using street furniture led design duo Herrmann & Coufal to create a brand new modular series called Conics. Its linchpin is a conical body of concrete. Conical casts in three sizes rotate to reach their final function: table, seat, planter or bench. Particularly impressive is the version of a round table with an inner planter for a tree or herbs. Circular shapes for outdoor furniture are very popular, thanks to both aesthetics, and to their greater variability and capacity utilisation.

Conics seats and benches combine well with steel tables of the award-winning Pixel series, whose authors are also Herrmann & Coufal. Creativity is encouraged by the HPL material used for tables and seats, as it allows colour printing. Planters have a sophisticated insulation system that protects plant roots from freezing in winter and overheating in summer. The structure of planters includes an esthetically positioned irrigation system. Conics is an impressive, versatile and, most importantly, functional element of street furniture. Your game of cones starts with a simple by turn.
